The Spicy Margarita—Jalapeño Twist—is a modern cousin of the classic Mexican margarita that balances bright lime, quality tequila and a savory kick from fresh jalapeño; it evolved in contemporary bars from Mexico City to cocktail rooms in Buffalo and beyond. What makes a great version is equilibrium: good blanco tequila, fresh-squeezed lime, a clean orange liqueur and controlled chili heat so the pepper complements rather than overwhelms. A practical tip: taste the muddled jalapeño before shaking and remove seeds if you prefer restrained spice, and always double-strain for a smooth, drinkable finish.
Ingredients
| 2 oz | tequila blanco |
| 1 oz | Cointreau (orange liqueur) |
| ¾ oz | fresh lime juice |
| ½ oz | agave syrup |
| 2 tsp | fresh jalapeño, thinly sliced and muddled |
| 1 tsp | Tajín (for rim) |
| 1 tsp | thin jalapeño slice (for garnish) |
Instructions
- Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip the rim into Tajín, then fill the glass with fresh ice
- Place the thin jalapeño slices in a cocktail shaker and gently muddle to release oils without pulverizing the pepper
- Add tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice and agave syrup to the shaker, fill with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled
- Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice using a fine mesh strainer to catch seeds and pulp
- Float or rest a thin jalapeño slice on the surface as garnish and serve immediately
