Wine from the Bordeaux region of France, almost always a blend. Reds are built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot; whites on Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.

Left Bank wines are Cabernet-dominant — firmer, more tannic, longer-aging. Right Bank wines are Merlot-dominant — softer, plusher and more approachable young.

No. The famous châteaux command high prices, but most Bordeaux is everyday wine at everyday prices. A well-made entry-level Bordeaux is one of the better values in dry red wine.
