Classic Daiquiri Recipe cocktail in glass with garnish

Classic Daiquiri Recipe: The Original Three-Ingredient Rum Cocktail

Born in Cuba in the late 19th century, the Classic Daiquiri is the original three-ingredient rum cocktail that celebrates balance between rum, lime, and sugar. What defines a great Daiquiri is bright, freshly squeezed citrus, a clean white rum, and the correct dilution and chill to marry tension and silkiness—traits that made it a favorite among sailors and city bars alike. This recipe follows the IBA proportions for a spirit-forward 1.5 oz base while remaining supremely drinkable in a coupe glass with a lime wheel. If you're in Buffalo, our store stocks several Cuban-style white rums that make an excellent starting point.

Ingredients

1 ½ oz white rum (Cuban-style)
¾ oz fresh lime juice
½ oz simple syrup (1:1)

Instructions

  1. Chill a coupe glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water.
  2. Add the white rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy.
  4. Double-strain the mixture into the chilled coupe glass to remove ice shards and pulp.
  5. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and serve immediately.
Garnish: Lime wheel
💡 Pro tips: Always use freshly squeezed lime and a clean, lightly floral white rum to achieve the bright balance classic to the Daiquiri; adjust the simple syrup by 0.25 oz increments to taste. Shake hard and double-strain for a silky texture and proper dilution; for a drier version reduce syrup to 0.25 oz or swap to a 2:1 lime-to-sugar ratio for a tarter profile.
