The Bramble, created in 1984 by London bartender Dick Bradsell, is a modern British classic that pairs bright lemon and gin with the sweet, dark counterpoint of crème de mûre. What defines a great Bramble is balance: a firm but not overpowering gin base, crisp fresh lemon, restrained simple syrup, and a measured drizzle of blackberry liqueur that visually and flavorfully bridges the components. Serve it in a rocks glass over crushed ice so the liqueur can weave through the drink. If you happen to be in Buffalo or visiting our store, try this with a locally stocked London dry gin for a regional twist.
Ingredients
| 2 oz | London dry gin |
| ¾ oz | fresh lemon juice |
| ½ oz | simple syrup (1:1) |
| ½ oz | crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur) |
| 1 cup | crushed ice |
| 1 tbsp | fresh blackberry for garnish |
| 1 tbsp | lemon slice for garnish |
Instructions
- Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice and set aside to chill the glass
- Add gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker with a few large ice cubes and shake briskly for about 10 seconds
- Strain the mixture into the prepared rocks glass over fresh crushed ice
- Drizzle the crème de mûre over the top so it drifts through the ice and creates the signature 'bramble' streaks
- Garnish with a fresh blackberry and a lemon slice and serve with a short straw
