Most vodka is safe for gluten sensitivity — distillation strips out gluten proteins, so even wheat- or rye-based vodka finishes under the FDA's 20 ppm gluten-free threshold. For zero doubt, choose a vodka distilled from corn (Tito's), potato, or grapes. Flavored vodkas can add gluten, so check the label.

A 1.5 oz shot of 80-proof vodka is about 97 calories with zero sugar and zero carbs — one of the lowest-calorie spirits. Calories climb fast with sugary mixers, so soda water and citrus keep it light.

For a martini, a clean wheat vodka like Grey Goose or Ketel One shows off smoothness served cold. For everyday cocktails and mixing, a value corn vodka like Tito's holds up beautifully without breaking the budget.

Unopened, vodka lasts essentially forever. Once opened it stays good for years — just keep it sealed, cool, and out of sunlight. Flavored vodkas fade faster (a year or two) as the added flavors degrade.
